Job Position: Fitter

Location: Bakersfield, CA 93305

Pay Rate: $20.00/hr to $28.00/hr DOE

Shift: 1st

SUMMARY:

The position of Fitter will have experience performing a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, layout and fitting steel sub-assemblies, beams, columns, trusses, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks as per shop drawings, specifications, or other forms of instructions. The fitter will also be a proficient welder and capable of performing welding duties when needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Job Specific Duties:

Verify material sizes are correct and properly prepared prior to assembly. Report any incorrect or unprepared parts to Prefab Lead.

Expertise to critically review fabrication drawings.

Layout and fit fabricated steel assemblies and sub-assemblies.

Use tools and equipment including torches, forklifts, overhead cranes, carpenters levels, laser levels, tapes, squares, grinders, and mag drills.

Perform welding tasks as requested by supervisor or as required due to fabrication schedule and workload demands.

Must maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working environment by complying with KSF policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.

Maintains adherence to company policies, and quality, safety, and environmental standards as outlined in roles and responsibilities.

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.



Other Job Specific Duties:

Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

Report quality issues, drawing discrepancies, and/or part errors to Quality Assurance Manager.

Report any safety infraction to Supervisor or Safety Manager.

Use stop work authority if quality or safety concerns are encountered.

Must understand and follow the KSF Code of Conduct and all guidelines in the KSF employee handbook.

Must maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with KSF procedures, rules, and regulations.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Knowledge of:

General steel fabrication and erection practices.

Kern Steel Fabrication policies and procedures.

Welding safety and general labor safety.



Ability to:

Understand and read shop drawings, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions.

Read, understand, and follow shop fabrication schedule.

Verify dimensions of holes, copes, and bevels during layout/fitting tasks per drawings and instructions from the supervisor.

Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and a range of structural steel materials.

Lift up to 50 lbs.

Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Work independently and in a team.



Education / Experience:

A minimum of 3 - 5 years experience (preferably steel fabrication) in performing a variety of welding tasks using manual, semiautomatic, and automatic arc and gas equipment.

Must pass a 3G structural weld test.

Must competently and safely use KSF equipment and/or property.

Solid knowledge and understanding of weld symbols.

Working knowledge of computers, smart phones. And tablets.

Good math skills.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of physical, substance abuse screening, and background check.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters in performing the essential functions of this job.

Work is primarily performed outside.

Noise level is moderately loud to loud.



Physical Job Description: Job Title Fitter

Typical Working Conditions: Heat and cold environment, sometimes hot equipment, fumes, and overhead movement of steel.

Equipment Used: Welding machines, grinders, torches, drills, hand tools, welding rods, and wire. Squares and measurement devices. Overhead crane. Sometimes it is necessary to wear specified IIPP and Safety harness.
