Location: Taft, CA
Pay Rate: Starting at $34.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Saturday (weekends as needed)
Hours: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Start Date: ASAPPosition SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Field/Shop Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing oil production equipment, heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and large diesel-powered vehicles. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, work independently, and maintain a strong commitment to safety while working in both shop and field environments.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, heavy equipment, oil production rigs, and large commercial vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on trucks, trailers, and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic (air), and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose engine and transmission issues using electronic diagnostic software and scanners.
  • Utilize laptop-based diagnostic programs for:
    • Cummins
    • Detroit Diesel
    • Allison Transmission
    • Caterpillar (CAT)
    • PACCAR
  • Read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Replace defective components and install replacement parts.
  • Safely operate a service truck equipped with a crane.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform field service calls at various job sites and travel long distances when required.
  • Work effectively with other mechanics and departments to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair documentation.
  • Respond to emergency repairs, overtime, and weekend work as business needs require.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience repairing and maintaining oilfield equipment, heavy-duty trucks, or diesel-powered vehicles.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair:
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Air brake and pneumatic systems
    • Electrical and wiring systems
    • Diesel engines and transmissions
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and crane-equipped mechanic trucks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid California Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Acceptable driving record for company insurance requirements.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Oilfield equipment repair experience.
Required ToolsCandidates must provide their own tools, including but not limited to:
  • Standard and metric wrench sets (up to 2”)
  • Standard and metric socket sets (up to 1½”)
  • Ratchets (up to ¾”)
  • Screwdrivers
  • Pliers (cutting, stripping, crimping)
  • Hammers, punches, and chisels
  • Air or cordless impact tools (up to ¾”)
  • Electrical diagnostic equipment
  • Test light
  • Digital multimeter
  • Amp draw tester
  • Puller sets (preferred)
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and components.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel to remote field locations as needed.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours when required.
