Job Position: Diesel Mechanic (Field Mechanic)

Location: Taft, CA 93268

Pay Rate: $33.00/hr.

Shift: Full-Time



Position Title: Shop Mechanic Department: Shop Services

Position summary: Repairs, maintains, and installs replacement parts on oil (production) rigs and large motorized vehicles following oral and written work orders.

Tasks:

  1. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic defects in production rigs and vehicles.

  2. Cleans parts, e.G., pistons, valves, transmissions, clutches, using steam hose and detergents, inspecting them, and identifying worn or defective parts.

  3. Replaces worn or damaged mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components using hand and power tools.

  4. Welds broken structures, e.G., engine mounts, handrails machine guards and pipe racks using electric and acetylene welding equipment.

  5. Test-runs engines at various speeds observes efficiency of operation. Troubleshoot engines and transmissions. (Cummins, Detroit diesel, Allison transmissions, CAT, Paccar

  6. Installs repaired equipment, observes operations, and readjusts components as necessary.

  7. Operates various standard and heavy equipment and tools utilized in rig and vehicle repair.

  8. Makes emergency repairs in oil fields and roadside as needed.

  9. Maintains cleanliness of garage facilities and equipment, ensuring areas of responsibility are organized and safe for work.

  10. Performs position related tasks as assigned.

  2. Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

  3. Repairing Make complex repairs on equipment, machinery or systems using the requisite tools.

  4. Coordination - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

  5. Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment operates properly.

  6. Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

  7. Mechanical Understand various functions within gas driven, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical system.



Attributes:

  1. Control Precision - The ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.

  2. Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  3. Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  4. Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.



Experience and Education:

  1. High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) - preferred

  2. Minimum of 1-(one) year of demonstrated experience in oil rig and large vehicle repair and maintenance. |



Other preferred but not required:

  1. Possess a valid Class A or B Commercial License issued by the State of California and driving record acceptable to General Production Liability Insurance Carrier.



Physical Requirements:

  1. Able to stand for extended periods (up to two-(2) hours) without relief.

  2. Able to bend, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, reach, turn and twist body throughout the workday on a frequent basis.

  3. Able to push and pull weights of up to 250 lbs. With the assistance of a co-worker and/or mechanical device.

  4. Able to perform throughout the workday, Heavy Lifting (50lbs or more) on a frequent basis;Moderate Lifting (25lbs to 75lbs) on a continuous basis;and occasionally, with assistance lift more than 75+ lbs.

  • a. End wrenches standard and metric up to 2

  • b. Sockets standard and Metric up to 1 1/2

  • c. Screwdrivers

  • d. Pliers, cutting, stripping, crimping

  • e. Hammers and punches, chisels

  • f. Impacts, air or cordless up to

  • g. Pullers sets a plus

  • h. Ratchets up to 3/4

  • i. Diagnostic equipment for electrical circuit testing

  • j. Test light, multimeter, amp draw tester

2) Must be able to troubleshoot hydraulic systems

3) Must be able to troubleshoot air systems

4) Must be able to troubleshoot wiring problems

5) Must be able to use diagnostics on scanners for repairs

6) Must be able to use a laptop to troubleshoot engines and transmissions

  • a. Cummins

  • b. Detroit diesel

  • c. Allison transmission

  • d. Cat

  • e. Paccar

7) Welding and fabrication is a plus

8) Valid driver's license

9) Must be able to operate a crane for lifting (on the mechanic truck)

10) Must be able to work before and after hours and weekends if needed

  • a. Normal hours right now are 6: 00am to 3: 30 pm Mon through Friday

  • b. You will probably be asked to work weekends

11) Must be able to work well with other mechanics

12) Must Get the job done in a timely manner

13) Must be able to multitask often

14) Must be able to fill out and understand JSA forms

15) Must be safety oriented

16) Must be able to operate a forklift

17) Must be able to drive long distance to locations and yards

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate equipment needed for repairs. Troubleshoot and isolate mechanical problems;implement corrective actions as appropriate.

  • Must be able to diagnose and repair problems related to hydraulic components, steering systems, engines etc.

  • Performs repair or preventative maintenance on electrical, heavy equipment including production rigs, backhoes, water trucks and other heavy equipment.

  • Welding and/or fabricating necessary parts for repair of equipment is a plus.

  • Ensures proper and accurate documentation of all maintenance performed.

  • Ensures that all repair and maintenance work is performed in a safe, efficient, timely and cost-efficient manner.

  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and ensures the timely and effective repair of any problems identified during an inspection.

  • Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Allison transmission, Cat and Paccar is a plus.

  • Must have own tools.
