Title: Diesel Technician
Job Type: Non-Exempt Department:
Diesel - Yard Spotter
Job Hours: 7 am 3: 30 pm (can vary at times)
Supervisor: Diesel Manager Position
Summary: In this role, you will complete diagnostics, repair, and rebuild equipment in the shop at our Yard Spotter location under limited supervision. Applies documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools. Frequently interacts with customers and staff associates to work as one team while completing work orders.
Key responsibilities: Service all yard trucks and equipment as required Trouble shoot and analyze all service-related issues (including after treatment systems) Repair, clean, and reassemble all equipment, components, engines, and fuel systems Diagnose and repair air brake systems Performs preventative maintenance based on assessment of equipment Completes required documentation when completing work orders, time sheets, warranty claims, and documents via handwritten forms or business system screens Familiar with all DOT regulations, applying this knowledge while completing inspections Completes training in line with skill and business requirements Keeps work area, shop, and tools clean to ensure proper operation Adheres to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to the supervisor Ability to effectively follow written and verbal instruction
Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications: Cummins Certified preferred Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution (or equivalent work experience) Valid driving permit (good driving record required) Intermediate to expert level knowledge of and/or experience with diesel engine products
Skill Level A
Ability to carry out basic diagnostics using diagnostic tools on different product types with minimal supervision Able to fully use all required service tools Capable of developing collaborative working relationships Able to identify and communicate opportunities for work process improvements Can resolve common technical problems
Skill Level B
Ability to perform diagnostics on different product types without supervision In depth mechanical repair and is capable to carry out internal/external engine repairs which include fuel system components without supervision Ability to develop and maintain productive customer relationships
Working Conditions and Abilities (including but not limited to):
This position is physically strenuous and demanding Drivers will be lifting and managing heavy objects and therefore must be able to lift 50 lbs. Drivers will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for hot and cold temperature Work around exhaust fumes, gas, diesel, solvents, paint, thinners, etc. (Occasionally) Work around noisy conditions in the shop occasionally push/pull objects up to 50lbs (Occasionally) Perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking, climbing stairs, etc. (Constantly) Able to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, filing, sitting constantly Able to sit for up to 8 hours a day Able to perform tasks which require hand eye coordination, such as telephone console Able to understand and relate to specific ideas generally several at a time Able to understand and relate to concepts behind specific ideas Able to remember task / assignments given at beginning of a period extending several days Able to remember multiple tasks / assignments given to self and others during course of a day Able to remember multiple tasks / assignments given to self and others over extended periods of time Communicate in written work, using good written skills Hear normal sounds with some background noise (Constantly)
